What the figures mean

Creditors' Voluntary Liquidation consistently accounts for the large majority of UK company insolvencies — directors choosing to close an insolvent company on their own initiative rather than waiting for a creditor's petition. Compulsory liquidations reflect creditor (often HMRC) enforcement through the courts; administrations and CVAs are rescue procedures and a far smaller share of the total.

Monthly figures are volatile — court sitting days, HMRC enforcement activity and seasonal cash-flow pressure all move individual months. The year-on-year comparison above is usually the more reliable signal of direction.

If your company is part of these statistics in the making — creditor pressure, HMRC arrears, or a balance sheet that no longer works — the earlier you take advice, the more options remain open.
